On 26th, the first China-Africa Defense and Security Forum held by China’s Ministry of National Defense opened and was participated by 12 deputies from Chinese military and 50 military and defense deputies including Chiefs of the General Staff and Deputy Chiefs of the General Staff from 50 African countries such as Sierra Leone and South Sudan and the African Union.
The theme is “Working Together and Mutual Assistance”. Deputies had in-depth discussions about Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-Africa community of shared future, security situation in Africa, Africa's capacity building in independent security, China-Africa military relations in a new era and other issues and visited China's army, navy and air force. Hu Changming, director of the Office for International Cooperation of the Central Military Commission, delivered a speech on behalf of China, during which he remarked that this forum aims to translate into reality the consensus of building a China-Africa community of shared future reached between President Xi and African national leaders, further deepen defense and security cooperation between the two sides and promote the upgrading of China-Africa relations.
Addressing the forum on behalf of Africa, Sesay, Chief of the General Staff of Sierra Leone, said that Africa attaches importance to developing military ties with China, highly appreciates this forum held by China and hopes that this important multilateral platform of dialogue and cooperation can help enhance exchanges and cooperation with Chinese military and injects impetus to long-term growth of China-Africa relations.
